The City of Cushing is seeking a dependable and hardworking individual to join our team as a Water/Sewer Maintenance Laborer. This position performs a variety of maintenance, construction, repair, and equipment-operation duties related to the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, and repair water and sewer lines, pipes, hydrants, meters, manholes, and related equipment.
Assist with construction and maintenance projects, including digging ditches, repairing water mains, laying pipe, backfilling, landscaping, and pavement or sidewalk removal and replacement.
Locate water, sewer, and other underground utility lines before excavation.
Respond to water leaks, pressure loss, service interruptions, and other water or sewer concerns.
Operate trucks, power equipment, pumps, compressors, tools, and other construction and maintenance equipment.
Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
Maintain records related to inspections, maintenance activities, water supply, materials, and inventory.
Work safely as part of a crew and assist other Public Works employees as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively and work well with employees, other departments, and the public.
Ability to safely operate tools and equipment used in maintenance and construction work.
Licenses and Certifications
Applicants must have:
A valid state driver’s license.
A Class B CDL with air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within the six-month probationary period.
A Class D Oklahoma Water Maintenance License and Class D Sewer Maintenance License, or the ability to obtain both within six months.
Physical and Work Requirements
This is a physically demanding outdoor position. Employees may work around moving equipment, wet or humid conditions, chemicals, confined or precarious spaces, and other conditions associated with water and sewer maintenance.
The position requires frequent lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting and moving of up to 100 pounds.
