Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
The City of Cushing is accepting applications for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical, operational, and maintenance duties related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's wastewater treatment plant and associated pump stations.
Starting Wage: $18.50 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor the performance of plant equipment, gauges, charts, and pump stations.
- Record and maintain operational and statistical data related to plant performance.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace pumps, filters, gauges, controls, and other treatment plant equipment.
- Operate and monitor the computerized SCADA system.
- Collect wastewater samples and perform laboratory testing in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Analyze chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of wastewater.
- Chart laboratory test results for trend analysis and maintain all required Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) records.
- Evaluate operational data and make process control adjustments to ensure efficient plant operation.
- Prepare wastewater treatment reports and maintain accurate operational records.
- Perform process control calculations.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow all applicable safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, other departments, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
- Ability to operate and maintain wastewater treatment equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to perform laboratory testing and process control calculations.
- Ability to identify equipment malfunctions and perform routine repairs.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
Work Schedule
This position requires shift work, weekends, and holidays. Employees are also required to participate in the department's on-call rotation.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Oklahoma driver's license (or ability to obtain) with a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
- Possess a Class D Oklahoma Wastewater Operator License or have the ability to obtain it within six (6) months of employment.
- Within eighteen (18) months of employment, obtain:
- Class C Oklahoma Wastewater Laboratory License; and
- Class C Oklahoma Wastewater Operator License.
